How to fix common problems with Canon printers in Windows 10?

After upgrading to Windows 10, older peripherals like printers can not work properly. If you are using Canon printers, you should first put a look at Canon's website that will work with Windows 10 in the list of printers.

If the list contains statistics of your printer model, but you are still facing printer problems, then we have set down some potential solutions on Canon Support.
How to fix common problems with Canon printers in Windows 10?

Problems 1: Canon printer does not work with Windows 10

The first thing is that you have to check that your canon printer is on or connected to the PC in question. It may seem basic, but surprisingly easy to ignore! If your printer still does not work, follow the steps below:
  1. Try running a Troubleshooter provided by Microsoft
  2. If that does not solve the problem, then that means your printer may need new printer drivers. For a compatible printer driver, visit the printer manufacturer's website that will work with Windows 10.
Before installing a new printer driver, you must uninstall the printer by following the steps given below
  1. Open the Start menu
  2. Click on device and printer
  3. Select your Canon printer
  4. Select Remove Device from Screen
  5. Restore the printer
  6. If Windows does not get the driver, then browse the printer manufacturer website for the driver.
  7. Download the printer driver and follow the instructions given by the printer manufacturer.
Alternatively, you can get the driver update tool to update drivers and keep them updated. To check driver updates, follow the instructions on the Canon Driver page on Canon Printer Support.

Problem 2: There is no Windows 10 printer driver for your printer

Not all printer manufacturers will work with Windows 10 which are not offering new drivers. In some cases, you can see that the printer manufacturer has supported the printer model on its own. However, there is a way on this issue.

If your printer manufacturer is not providing a Windows 10 compatible printer driver, then you can try the Windows 8 printer driver because they can work. In most cases, the printer driver is a .exe file. You need to uninstall the printer starting at step 4 above.

After removing the printer, you must click on the .exe driver file and install the printer driver.

Problem 3: Printer detected, but you do not have a driver for the old printer

If your printer is detected after the upgrade, then you need to follow the on-screen instructions to install the printer. When Windows 10 scans for connected devices, it will give you some options if it does not find any driver. Here steps should be followed which you have to follow
  1. Click on the printer I do not want to list. (Since we are adding a local printer, we will not discuss network printer options that Windows gives you.)
  2. Select the option that says my printer is a little old. Help me find it.
  3. Click Next
  4. Windows 10 will now re-locate the connected printer and hopefully install the printer using compatible drivers in its database.
You can also install the appropriate printer driver on our Canon Driver page using the Driver Update Tool.
